Fly-Outs
Each year CAA members organize several cross-country flying trips providing members and their families an opportunity to participate in exploring the USA and abroad. Our Fly-outs consist of 2 or more aircraft making a group flight to a destination.
The hosts organize the lodging, ground transportation and arrange for exciting adventures – tours of bronze foundries (Joseph, OR), Air Force Base tours by an insider (Phoenix, AZ), jet boat rides on the Rogue River (Gold Beach OR), kayak floats down the Deschutes River (Sunriver, OR), exclusive invitations to ride on a WWII Merchant Marine ship - which sails only 2 weekends a year (Long Beach, CA).
Sometimes our Fly-outs don’t involve our own airplanes (chartering sailboats in the Caribbean!), but mostly they do. One year the club flew to Cuba!
Recent long-distance fly-outs have included Jackson Hole Wyoming, Joseph Oregon, San Juan Islands Washington, Sunriver Oregon, Sun Valley Idaho, Victoria BC, Catalina Island California, McCall Idaho, Cody Wyoming, Gold Beach Oregon, Healdsburg California and Baja, Mexico. Flying across the country together in a private airplane is an adventure few people get to experience.
Saturday breakfast/lunch fly-outs are terrific opportunities to warm up that oil, stay in practice and bring spouses and family together for some short socialization. Saturday fly-outs can be spur-of-moment, weather permitting. Fly to Independence for some hangar talk, or on to Salem or Albany or many other northwest airports. One Saturday the group flew to McKenzie Bridge State Airport for a picnic on the Rogue River. Keep in the loop on fly-outs by calling up the Events calendar on the CAA website!
The events are arranged by your peers and include activities of interest to all in your family. The only costs are directly related to your trip; no planning fee is involved.
