Aviation has always pushed materials to their limits—looking for structures and components that are stronger, lighter and more durable. On Thursday, October 8, CAA welcomes Professor Megumi Kawasaki of Oregon State University for a fascinating look at research that could help shape the next generation of aviation and aerospace materials.
Professor Kawasaki will introduce High Pressure Torsion (HPT), a process that subjects metals to enormous pressure while twisting them, transforming their internal structure down to the nanoscale. The result? Metals and alloys with properties that conventional manufacturing techniques may not be able to achieve.
You don’t need to be a metallurgist or engineer to enjoy this program. If you’re interested in airplanes, aerospace technology, engineering, manufacturing—or simply how things work, come discover what is happening at the leading edge of materials science.
