Screams, Schemes and Submarines: 1941 a comedy classic loosely based on what has come to be known as the Great Los Angeles Air Raid of 1942, as well as the bombardment of the Ellwood oil refinery, near Santa Barbara, by a Japanese submarine (also featuring a B-17 Bomber on the loose and a Curtiss P-40)
Steven Spielberg’s 1979 war comedy finds Los Angeles in full panic after Pearl Harbor, with an all‑star ensemble careening through slapstick chaos. Aviation fans will especially enjoy John Belushi as “Wild Bill” Kelso tearing across the screen in a Curtiss P‑40 Warhawk, backed by a rousing John Williams score.
